Applies to:

StorageTek T10000D Tape Drive - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The host application detects that one or more tapes are in write protected status on a certain drive. This goes undetected in the drive.

Cause

The file protect sensor in the drive could fail and the drive would not detect a problem.

Solution

A microcode change was added to T10000D microcode release 4.14.102 to test the file protect sensor after each tape is unloaded. If the test fails, the drive will SNO with FSC 3F31 and further tape mounts are prohibited. The drive needs to be replaced.
