Information in this document applies to any platform.

This is a 2N power configured SL8500 thus it had 2 PDU's.. The PDU's were swapped but did not resolve the issue.

Symptoms

The PDU on the SL8500 keeps tripping breaker.

Dropping power to the entire library.

Changes

Cause

Defective Smoke Detector.

Solution

Replace smoke detector.

Removal Instructions:

1. Open the library rear doors.. The smoke detector is located at the top right of the library.

2. Loosen the 2 set screws ( six to eight turns ).

See picture below:

3. Rotate the detector counterclockwise approximately 1/8 turn, then pull it straight out.

Note: It is recommended that the smoke detector and base both be replaced at the same time.

Smoke Detector Base Removal:

1. Remove one T25 torx screw that secures the mounting plate access panel.. See picture below

2. Disconnect the two in-line connectors (J/P856 and J/P857) as shown in picture below

3. Cut/remove the cable tie.

4. Place the mounting on a suitable work surface.

5. Remove the 2 slotted screws securing the base assembly as shown in the picture below.

Replacement Instructions:

1. Position the replacement base assembly on the mounting plate and secure with the 2 screws.

2. Connect the 2 connectors and secure the cables.

3. Close and secure the mounting plate.

4. Re-install the smoke detector.
