Symptoms

When trying to access the Snap Management Utility login at: https://<ip address>:8443/smu/faces/login.jspx, the browser fails to connect and gives the message:

The site cannot be reached. <ip address> refused to connect.

The following error is also seen on the SMU Host in %ProgramData%\Oracle\Oracle Snap Management\Utility\SmuService.log.0:

EVENT: Failed locating JRE runtime library. Error (2) opening registry key 'Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment'

Changes

Upgraded Java on the SMU Host running MS Windows 2008 to Java 8.

Cause

The 32-bit version of Java 8 was installed. SMU requires the 64-bit version of Java 8.

Solution

On the SMU host running MS Windows, perform the following steps:

Uninstall the 32-bit version of Java 8.
Download and install the 64-bit version of Java 8.
Clear the browser cache.
