7000 Appliance OS (Fishworks)

Symptoms

The 'size' is not reported for a DIMM.

ZFSSA:> maintenance hardware select chassis-000 select memory select memory-022 show
Properties:
          label = DIMM 0/11
        present = true
        faulted = false
   manufacturer = Samsung
          model = 32768MB DDR4 SDRAM DIMM
           part = 00000000,M386A4G40DM0-CPB
         serial = 00CE02174837983FE4

A 'size' line should follow the 'serial' line:

           size = 34359738368

The kernel is also not recognizing the expected amount of memory.
In this example we have twenty-four 32GB DIMMs so should see 768GB but only 704GB is reported. (two DIMMs were missing 'size'.)

ZFSSA> raw appliance.sysinfo().hw_physmem
    hw_physmem: 720763,

Changes

DIMM replaced.

Cause

The DIMM was faulted, however; after replacement it remained faulted in the appliance, though no new errors were reported.

The fault for the DIMM was then markedrepaired.

Solution

 A reboot of the system after the fault was repaired is required for the DIMM to be recognized properly.

ZFSSA:> maintenance hardware select chassis-000 select memory select memory-022 show
Properties:
           label = DIMM 0/11
         present = true
         faulted = false
    manufacturer = Samsung
           model = 32768MB DDR4 SDRAM DIMM
            part = 00000000,M386A4G40DM0-CPB
          serial = 00CE02174837983FE4
            size = 34359738368

After a reboot the kernel was recognizing memory as expected.

ZFSSA> raw appliance.sysinfo().hw_physmem
    hw_physmem: 786299,
