Sun StorageTek Host Software Component (HSC) - Version 7.3 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Tape is stuck in the robot and we cannot get CAP 00:01:00 to come off-line or free up. The status of CAP 01:00:00 says ejecting, but no tapes have been ejected from the CAP.

Changes

Cause

 CAPs were not functioning.

Solution

Procedure that was used to clear this issue:

1. Issue ".D CAP" from HSC and CAP shows "RECOVERY" status (waited as long as an hour to self clear).
2. "UNLOCKED" light never illuminates on Op Panel - ".ENTER" command hangs if attempted.
3. Issue HSC command ".CAPPREF 9 00:01:00 MANUAL".
4. HSC responds with "CAP 00:01:00 Already in Manual Mode".
5. Issue HSC command ".CAPPREF 9 00:01:00 AUTO".
6. HSC responds with "Attempting Cleanup of CAP 00:01:00".
7. After a few minutes the "RECOVERY" status changes to "AUTO".
8. The "UNLOCKED" light illuminates on the OP Panel and the CAP is fully functional.
