Applies to:

Oracle Communications Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) - Version DSR 5.1 and later
Tekelec

Symptoms

 Upgrade state of the server will be in Failed status in GUI under Main Menu: Administration -> Software Management -> Upgrade

Changes

 When the server gets upgraded from 5.1 to 7.3.1

Cause

Upgrade detects that the hpacucli process is still running on the server, so it exited with failure.This is the trigger point of the upgrade failure.

1507780819::hpacucli still running! Stop it first.
1507780820::error: %preun(hpacucli-9.0-24.0.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 1

The above issue causes the server to roll back to 5.1 and when some packages were reverting back to its original state, the server finds less space in the /usr directory and thereby causing the server to be in a half-baked state.

1519801598:: installing package valgrind-1:3.8.1-3.2.el6.x86_64 needs 82MB on the /usr filesystem

Solution

 The only recommendation is to DR this particular server. As its parent is already upgraded, this server should be DR similar to its parent release i.e. 7.3.1.
