SymptomsThe Browser User Interface (BUI) Admin shows DNS servers offline, with a simulated amber LED. Other visible symptoms are: ZFSStor:configuration services dns> select server-002 ChangesNewly added DNS servers, especially Windows Server 2016. CauseThe ZFS appliance uses a particular DNS query to test whether servers are online and responding, as follows: DNS: ----- DNS Header ----- Some DNS servers, notably Windows Server 2016, do not have the test zone installed by default, and are therefore unable to resolve this query.
SolutionCreate a forward lookup zone for "dns-server-ping.test" that will resolve the above SOA query. Most DNS servers should have an example of this zone. The DNS servers appear to work in this state, but you will lose the ability to check whether they are online, or display their current latency. Attachments This solution has no attachment |
