Information in this document applies to any platform.

Fe visited the site and observed that

1. Connected laptop through the 2B port.
2. Observed that CAP, Drive,elevator and Safety door are in red. robot and power supply status is green.
3. 3COM switch was on and switch orange leds on network cables were blinking, On other working library those are not glowing.
4. Collected logs and power cycle the library.
5. Now library is online and no more orange led blinking on the library. Collected and shared snapshot.
6. SLC version is latest on the Op-panel 3.63.00.
7. Look like communication issues, but switch had power when issue occurred.
8. Customer is using firmware version 8.52 which is specially made available for them.

Suspecting issue may be with 32-Port Ethernet Switch Assembly, PUE

Symptoms

SL8500 tape library keeps getting hangs for unknown reasons. After reboot it back to normal state. This issue experienced 5 times last couple of months.

Drive + Power Supply + Robots + CAPs all go offline when the issue occurs.

The drive's, caps and elevators went offline when the library appeared to have hung... From the log snapshot,the status of the devices listed below.

All Drives were in error state

but the Bot's are all in a ready state as they do not use the internal LAN to communicate with the HBCR2

Changes

 32-Port Ethernet Switch Assembly, PUE card has been replaced, still issue remains same.

Cause

Defective hardware component.

Solution

Replaced HBCR2 controller card.
