Symptoms

Sites have reported the SL8500 front door interlock switches were left defeated after maintenance activity.

Cause

Warning not to leave the Door Interlock switches defeated.

Solution

It may be necessary to temporarily defeat the SL8500 Front Door Interlock Switches to troubleshoot Robotic initialization issues or Robotic alignment issues, example is noted in the attachment in Document ID 1376163.1.

The Door Interlock Switches should never be defeated unless instructed by the Tape Support team and the switches should never be left defeated after the maintenance activity is completed. If it is necessary to temporarily defeat the door switches, recommend the tape used is a brightly colored tape.

The Door Interlock Switches are a safety feature of the SL8500 to protect personnel from being exposed to active Robotics while inside the SL8500. Under no circumstances should the door switches be left defeated while a library is in production.
