Applies to:

SPARC T5-2 - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

System will show 8400 ff000XXX right after the banner while booting.

Examples:

Unexpected Event 8400 ff000100
Unexpected Event 8400 ff000170
Unexpected Event 8400 ff000180

This will occur only on boot, will only occur with Solaris 10, and only on newer firmware (9.6.x).

This error only occurs when the system is attached to a screen via USB regardless of what the input-device variable is.

Changes

Updating the OS to S11 will clear the issue as well, as it's not present in S11 installs on the same systems due to how S11 handles OBP USB code.

Cause

This is a bug in the OBP code. The error is benign and until the fix is delivered it can be safely ignored. Per development, the OBP will display the error but ignore it.

Solution

This error can be safely ignored. The error code is informational only and not indicative of an active fault.

This will be fixed in an upcoming firmware release that includes OBP 4.42.x
