Applies to:

Sun StorageTek Auto Cartridge Sys Lib SW (ACSLS) - Version 7.3 to 8.4 [Release 7.0 to 8.0]
Sun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The total cell count in ACSLS is not in sync with the active cell count in library after a CEM was added to expand the library.

600 cell slots should have been added to the library configuration.  The free_cells.sh output still shows 1100 cells instead of 1700 cells:

$  /export/home/ACSSS/utils/free_cells.sh -a
    ACS 1
    Total free cells = 56
    Allocated cells = 800
    Total cells = 1100

    ACSLS Server
    Total free cells = 56
    Allocated cells = 800
    Total cells = 1100

Changes

CEM added in SL3000 library

Cause

 The new cells are not activated in SL3000

Solution

1. Determine the total number of cells in the ACSLS library configuration by running 'free_cells.sh -a'

  $ /export/home/ACSSS/utils/free_cells.sh -a
    ACS 1
    Total free cells = 56
    Allocated cells = 800
    Total cells = 1100

    ACSLS Server
    Total free cells = 56
    Allocated cells = 800
    Total cells = 1100

2. If the ACSLS total cells count is not the expected library cell count after the library expansion, verify the active cell license from the SL Console:

   From the SL Console, connect to the tape library.
   On the Tools panel, select the Hardware Activation option and verify if the Capacity license exists.
   If the library is not licensed to have the total expanded cell count, open a tape hardware service request to obtain the correct capacity license.

3. Update the Actives Cells license to reflect the actual number of active cells after the library expansion

    a. In the Select Active Cells screen, choose "Select By - Library" and highlight a cell. This will select the entire library.
    b. Click on the "Remove" radio button and go to the Commit Screen and Activate the configuration.
    c. Go back to the Select Active Cells screen and choose "Select By - Library" and highlight a cell.
    d. Click on the "Add" radio button and go to the Commit Screen and Activate the configuration.
    e. Reboot library to rebuild element IDs
    f. Reconfigure host to use and audit new capacity.Save the changes

4. Configure ACSLS to include the expansion slots to the existing library configuration

    a. Run the config command:
        $ config acs <acs ID>

    b. Audit the ACS in case there are cartridges in the new cells:
        $ cmd_proc -l
           ACSSA>  audit  <cap ID>  acs <acs ID>

    c. Verify the total cells count in ACSLS:
        $ /export/home/ACSSS/utils/free_cells.sh -a
