Oracle Database Appliance - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
$ <ORACLE_HOME>/OPatch/ocm/bin/emocmrsp does not exist on ODA.
This directory structure and file are required based on some GI One-Off patch readme
Changes
Wanting to apply a patch on the Oracle Database Appliance which requires a GI bug fix.
Cause
The ODA does NOT include the emocmrsp binary in GI HOME for the ODA 12.1.2.10 or later
However, much of the generic EM based documentation does not take the tightly controlled Engineered ODA System into account.
While the recommendations may be true for generic Enterprise Manager / Cloud Control installations, the Oracle Database Appliance (ODA)also does not support applying GI one-off patches.
As ODA Development does not support or recommend GI one-off patches, this generic EM information is not valid and therefore can be misleading.
Solution
In general: The expectation is to only apply regression and stack tested ODA bundles provided by product support when available.
As documented at: OPatch: Behavior Changes starting in OPatch 12.2.0.1.5 and 11.2.0.3.14 releases (Doc ID 2161861.1)
The command "emocmrsp" is used to create the response file for the option -ocmrf.
"emocmrsp"is not used since the -ocmrf is no longer needed.
So on ODA we can ignore the step to create OCM files and use "-ocmcr" parameter for ODA 12.1.2.10 or later release.
- If there is a specific need for an ODA GI one-off patch please confirm if this is already provided in a newer ODA version than the one currently used.
- If there is still no confirmation that the patch exists in the newest ODA patchset bundle, then please open an SR requesting clarification before attempting any GI Patching outside of those provided by ODA product development.
