Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
Battery had been replaced 2 months before the alarm

Symptoms

Event list shows "/SYS/MB/V_BAT : Lower Non-critical going low" and a few seconds later "/SYS/MB/V_BAT : Lower Non-critical going high ", "show faulty" displays event ID SPT-8000-G3. Battery was showing lower voltage:

/SYS/MB/V_BAT
Properties:
type = Voltage
ipmi_name = MB/V_BAT
class = Threshold Sensor
value = 2.420 Volts              <<<<
upper_nonrecov_threshold = N/A
upper_critical_threshold = N/A
upper_noncritical_threshold = N/A
lower_noncritical_threshold = 2.560 Volts
lower_critical_threshold = N/A
lower_nonrecov_threshold = N/A
alarm_status = warning

Changes

 MB Battery had been replaced 2 months ago, battery should not be failling so soon.

Cause

FW was upgraded from System Firmware 8.6.0.b to System Firmware 8.9.9, thus resolving the issue described in bug
23271415 Linearization for V_BAT needs to be adjusted
Such bug was resolved on Sun System Firmware 8.9.5

With the new Firmware battery was showing a higher voltage:

/SYS/MB/V_BAT
Properties:
type = Voltage
ipmi_name = MB/V_BAT
class = Threshold Sensor
value = 3.280 Volts              <<<<
upper_nonrecov_threshold = N/A
upper_critical_threshold = N/A
upper_noncritical_threshold = N/A
lower_noncritical_threshold = 2.560 Volts
lower_critical_threshold = N/A
lower_nonrecov_threshold = N/A
alarm_status = cleared

Solution

Issue was resolved by upgrading FW above 8.9.5 no need to replace battery
