Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 2316151.1 : Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance: VMware Host Unable To See ISCSI Lun When Added To Initiator Group
In this Document
Created from <SR 3-15879927671> Applies to:Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance Racked System ZS5-4 - Version All Versions and laterOracle ZFS Storage Appliance Racked System ZS5-2 - Version All Versions and later Oracle ZFS Storage ZS5-4 - Version All Versions and later Oracle ZFS Storage ZS5-2 - Version All Versions and later Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance Racked System ZS4-4 - Version All Versions and later 7000 Appliance OS (Fishworks) SymptomsVMware host is unable to see iSCSI LUNS if they are assigned to an initiator group, but the VMware host will see the iSCSI LUNS if they are assigned to "All initiators".
ChangesThis was a new configuration of a VMware host mapping iSCSI LUNS from a ZFS Storage Array
CauseThe IQN from the VMware host was using the hostname as part of it. The hostname was all capital letters. Example: iqn.2017-09.com.companyname:HOSTNAME The iSCSI specification only allows lower case letters in the IQN. Example: iqn.2017-09.com.companyname:hostname The ZFS Appliance will only allow lower case letters to be entered into the initiator field.
SolutionThe solution is to change the IQN name on the VMware host to use lower case letters and other valid characters. VMware can provide instruction on how to make this change.
