Symptoms

Media Validation Basic Verify is reported as successful on SLConsole but the Standard Verify fails with FSC 375E telling the MIR is incomplete on the validated tape.

Cause

Bug 26915212 ("Media Validation fails with FSC 375E on the Standard Verify only") was filed for this error but is closed as not being a bug.

The MV Basic Verify verifies that the MIR can be read and that the MIR data is up to date. Which are true for this tape. The MV Basic Verify does not read any data on the tape and does not require that the EOD location is known. Therefore, it does not report any error for the MIR being incomplete.

The MV Standard Verify reads data from the tape and therefore requires that the EOD location be known. Since this tape ends in a write perm and there is no EOD, the 375E error is reported for the Standard Verify.

Solution

Run the Media Validation Standard Verify to fully check the MIR state on a given tape.
