Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 2312739.1 : SL8500 - Racks/Tracks Out of Specification, Track Bowing Out of the Aluminum Extrusions
In this Document
Oracle Confidential PARTNER - Available to partners (SUN). Applies to:Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version All Versions and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform. SymptomsThe plastic rack(aka track) that fits inside the rail aluminum extrusions that the bot engages to move horizontally in the library was found to be out of specification. The issue is identified by the track bowing out of the aluminum extrusions. Note: Only impacts libraries with 4 & 5 SEMs installed. CauseOccurs when the intermediate racks stops are installed with the rack installation tool, pn_ 418644901 RACK ALIGNMENT Tool, but the racks do not align with the intermediate rack stops. To compensate the racks can be forced into the stops which puts tension on the racks and they can bow out of the stops under bot usage. SolutionInterim Resolution: - After the rack stops have been positioned by the rack alignment tool visual inspect the fin on the back of the rack as they are being installed if the fin does not seat properly in the stop re-position the stop to seat in the rack properly. It is likely the other rack stops will need to be re-positioned for the remainder of the rail going toward the CIM. - After adjusting the rack stops verify the track timing via the track alignment bot, pn_ 419894002 RACK LENGTH ALIGNMENT Tool, and make further adjustments as required. If necessary adjust the racks on the opposite tracks in the opposite direction to help compensate for the offset in the tracks. L8500 - Track Alignment Tool Procedure and Tool Part Number (Doc ID 2042551.1) Resolution: The manufacturer has confirmed that there was an issue with the Sabic material(raw resin)used during the injection process which has been resolved. Oracle is in the process of purging all current stock in manufacturing and spares, a white dot will be used to identify the newly manufactured racks/tracks.
