Applies to:

Oracle Key Manager - Version 2.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On occasion OKM attached tape drive agents will fail to request encryption keys when mounted with media through the backup application, this can generally occur after Tape Hardware issues or unexpected outages on the Backup Application Servers.

For example, the Netbackup application may report status code 84 or 85 (read / write) failures.

Cause

Tape Drives are not properly initialized.

Solution

With the Virtual Operator Panel (VOP), login to each tape drive in the Library and issue an IPL.  The drives will reboot, and come back up online.

Retest the backups and ensure the Tape Drives are properly receiving encryption keys by viewing the OKM Audit Event Logs.
