Symptoms

SLC shows a "ghost" drive in position 1.1.-1.1.1. This is an empty slot; refreshing SLC does not clear the status.
Log snapshot shows:

This SL3000 is enabled to input Drive Tray Serial numbers but currently is incomplete or contains invalid data.
1.1.-1.1.1

drive unknown 1 INVESTIGATE unknown Status

Cause

The cause of this is unknown; but it could be related to a someone replacing a different drive (1.1.-1.1.2) and temporarily inserting it in that slot the previous day.

Solution

Put a known good drive in the empty slot that SLC shows the ghost drive. Let the drive power up and initialize; then, power it down.  This should resolve the issue of the ghost drive showing up in SLC.  (Remove the known good drive from the empty slot).
