StorageTek T10000C Tape Drive - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Problems addressed in 3.64.101 microcode. This microcode was removed form distribution on December 7 2017.

Cause

Problems addressed in 3.64.101 microcode.

Solution

Note --

3.64.101 microcode has been removed from distribution on MOS. The reason it was pulled is an increase in 397B and 397C write errors seen at some sites.

Do not replace drives for these errors if the drive is running on 3.64.101 microcode.

3.64.101 code tightened the write spec so that tapes that would write ok on 3.63.101 code may fail on 3.64.101 code. It is recommended to downgrade to 3.63.101 code if the account is seeing 397B or 397C errors on 3.64.101 code. These are most likely occurring on tapes that have some defects but would work ok with 3.63.101 code.

Contact L2 support for further instructions.

Bug Number

FSC

Synopsis

25718534

4055,37F6
Fix to REDUCE some Perm Read errors with FSC 4055/37F6. This change
will detect marginally writing T10KC drives and now report Permanent Write
errors vs latent perm read tapes. This replaces Special Build RE363101 code.

26182710

6101,6112,6140
Fixes a DPKM problem which was an introduced bug in 3.63.101 code. FSC’s
seen with 3.63.101 were 6101, 6112 and 6140. This replaces special build
RA63101.

26241430

6101

Fix for T10000C ENCRYPT FSC (6106) Perm drives. An internal hardware
self-check has detected an error. A CRC value from the decryption engine is
not valid. This replaces Special Builds RA363101 and RB363101 code/s.

26391408

2B31

Fixes a bug seen running OHSM application this specific 2B31 problem only
occurs when running media verifications and a Canceled Verify operation is
sent to the drive/s. This replaces Special Build RD363101.
26498212 none Patch GOAP for security vulnerability issue CVE-2017-9765.
26526039 5A07 This servo code change now will replace some FSC 5A07 perm errors for bad
drives into two new FSC’s which will provide better descriptions for those
failures. Specifically 5A55 servo reader errors and 5A56 which is now an HPA
travel sensor failure.

26378004

3001

Fixes one footprint of a 3001 SNO.

26560147

590F, 5911, 550C and 550D

RFE Service requested engineering for a new code change to down drives for
these four FSC’s related to reel motor failures that have been known to
expose the customers tape to potential physical damage. These four FSC’s
are 590F, 5911, 550C and 550D. One time failures will now prevent any/all
subsequent load requests and these drive must be replaced and sent through
service repair.
