In this Document
Created from <SR 3-15396639981> Applies to:Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120 Server - Version All Versions and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform. SymptomsUnder certain conditions, the output of the Solaris command "iostat -En" doesn't display the Serial Number of a disk device. CauseThe cause will be described in the Solution section of this document. SolutionA) The Solaris command "iostat -En" will display the Serial Number of a disk device whenever the disk in question is a single physical disk. c1t4d0 Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0 c1t0d0 Soft Errors: 47 Hard Errors: 4 Transport Errors: 4
Example: c0t0d0 Soft Errors: 3 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0 Remark: The information "Size: 0.00GB" means that no medium has been inserted into the drive. 2) If the Vendor is LSILOGIC, then iostat is showing a LSI Hardware RAID volume which consists of two underlying internal disk drives. Example: c1t0d0 Soft Errors: 2 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0 Remark: The size of the logical Hardware RAID volume is "146.56GB", which could be mistaken for a size of a single physical 146GB disk drive. 3) If a LUN from an external Storage has been mapped to the operating system, then iostat -En won't Example: c3t60080E5000369618000004CC5143DDFDd0 Soft Errors: 6 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0 4) If a single physical disk has failed, then it is possible that the failure is so severe that the operating system won't be able to read any information Example: c1t1d0 Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 63 Transport Errors: 0 This Knowledge Document is partially based on the following conversation in the My Oracle Support Community (MOSC):
