Symptoms

SL150E - The Older SL150 Robots Will not Work in the Newer SL150E Library With 11 or More Modules

Changes

Customer needs a replacement robot for their SL150E with 11 or more modules.

Cause

If a customer has a SL150E library with 11 or more modules then the older SL150 robots will not work in the customers library and will cause an initialization failure because the cables are too short.

If an older replacement short robot mistakenly gets sent and it has 3.0 firmware on it then the log_error from the SL150 service bundle will show a 5141 error stating that "The range of motion on the robot is not sufficient for the number of expansion modules".

If the replacement short robot has older firmware running on it then the robot might be damaged because it was not designed to be in an 11 or more module library.

Solution

For a SL150E library with 11 or more modules you can only use SL150 robot P/N 7332809 or higher as a replacement because those robots have the longer cables that will reach all of the way to a total of 15 modules.  The older SL150 robots should never be used for a SL150E with 11 or more modules.
