Applies to:

Oracle Key Manager - Version 2.3 to 2.5.2 [Release 2.0]
Oracle Solaris on x86 (32-bit)

Symptoms

Customer had a HP LTO-4 tape drive that needed to be replaced.  Once the tape drive was replaced, it could not be enrolled to the OKM Cluster at the local site.

Changes

HP LTO4 tape drive was replaced, but could not be enrolled to to local KMA server's service port.

Cause

The customer's OKM servers were running a very old, unsupported version of OKM firmware, version 2.0.1.
The new tape drive is running the latest firmware

Solution

Upgraded from OKM version 2.0.1 to 2.2.2 then to 2.5.2 on all of the OKM KMA appliances, then was successfully able to enroll the newly replaced HP LTO-4 tape drive, which came with latest tape drive firmware.

It appears the old unsupported KMA version 2.0.1 was not able to communicate correctly with the tape drives new firmware.
