Applies to:

Acme Packet 4500 - Version S-Cz7.1.2 and later
Acme Packet 3820 - Version E-Cz7.3.0 and later
Acme Packet 4500
Acme Packet 3820

Symptoms

SBC nodes hang from time to time with no apparent reason, and nothing relevant in logs about the hanging cause.

Changes

SBC was upgraded from vmWorks release 6.x to Linux release 7.x

Cause

1) First of all, the SBC node is an AP4500 or AP3820 platform with QoS NIU, for example:

  Contents of PHY0 IDPROM
Assy, 4 Port SFP w/ QoS and translators   <<<<<<<<<<<<<
  Oracle Part Number:7087711
  Acme Packet Part Number:002-0619-58
  Serial Number:181615000438

2) Secondly, the SBC node is running a Linux release 7.x (SCZ7xx or ECZ7xx), for example:

  <<< show version image
  Linux (Acme Packet Net-Net 4500) version 3.8.13-el6uek.v3.8.13-118.6.1-cov
  Boot line: eth(0,0)sbc:/boot/nnSCZ730m2.64.bz e=1.1.1.3:ffffff00 g=1.1.1.1 u=vxftp pw=vxftp tn=sbc <<<<<<<<<<<<

Solution

This is already a known issue with Linux software (SCZ7.x or ECZ7.x) within AP4500/AP3820 and NIU cards supporting QoS. In this case, the SBC suffers hanging issues from time to time.

What are the recommended actions?
 - As temporary workaround, you can configure:

bootparam --> other (o) : noapic

 - or as final permanent solution, you can make upgrade of FPGA to version 2.22 (patch ID 24369382).

Please, upgrade to FPGA v2.22 if possible.
