Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

eth5 has been reported as not connected as by the Exachk report from the database server dbadm03.

Status on dbadm03:

FAIL => One or more Ethernet network cables are not connected.

DATA FROM DBADM03 - VERIFY ETHERNET CABLE CONNECTION QUALITY
/sys/class/net/eth0/carrier = 1
/sys/class/net/eth1/carrier = cat: /sys/class/net/eth1/carrier: Invalid argument
/sys/class/net/eth2/carrier = 1
/sys/class/net/eth3/carrier = 1
/sys/class/net/eth4/carrier = 1
/sys/class/net/eth5/carrier = 0<--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

eth4 and eth5 are fiber 10Gb connections in this case.  10Gb Fiber connections have an SFP+ transceiver  at each end of the fiber cable.

Cause

Loose connection.

Solution

In this case, the Customer re-seated both SFP+ and cable connections to bring the eth5 link back up at 10Gb
