Brushes Damanged

This was likely damaged during an Install.

Solution

Following steps are from SL3000 Service Manual, Pages 71 to 74. Please pay special attention to steps 6 to 10. DO NOT REMOVE SHIPPING TAPE prior to step 10.

To replace a TallBot assembly:

1. Tilt the bottom of the assembly out and, walking backwards, enter the library with the assembly.

2. Turn the TallBot so that it faces the rear wall.

3. Move the TallBot to either Column +1 of the base module or Column -6 of the drive expansion module. These locations allow space at the bottom for removing the lower pre-load assembly of the TallBot.

4. Insert the bottom pre-load assembly’s rollers into the floor extrusion.

5. Move the top of the TallBot toward the upper extrusion, resting the top rollers.

6. Push up on the upper pre-load assembly to position the lower rollers in the upper portion behind the extrusion.

7. Carefully align the upper pre-load assembly with the upper frame so that there is no gap between the two parts.

8. Holding the pre-load assembly against the upper frame, slowly tighten both T15 captive screws evenly.

9. Move the TallBot back and forth to verify that it moves easily. If it does not, re-check your work or you will damage the brushes.

10. Remove the TallBot’s shipping tape at the pre-load assembly lever and move the lever toward the rear wall to engage the brushes with the power strip.

11. Again move the TallBot back and forth to verify that it moves easily. There will be a small additional amount of drag since the brushes are engaged, but the TallBot must still move easily.

12. Exit the library and close the access door.

13. Check that the library initializes correctly.

14. Have the operator issue the command to place the library online.
