SL3000 tape library//Unable to move tapes from CAP to Storage slots and Drive.
Changes
Cause
Customer is perhaps using a down level version of SLC.
Solution
In SLConsole, go to: CAP ASSIGNMENT
The CAP Assignment utility only applies to FC-SCSI libraries. It is used to set CAP assignment or enter/eject cartridges using an FC-SCSI shared CAP.
Note: The term CAP refers to both AEMs and rotational CAPs, unless otherwise noted.
Use the Tools > CAP Assignment to change the CAP assignment mode for CAPs in an FC‐SCSI library. The CAP assignment mode controls whether library CAPs can be used for normal host operations or for diagnostic moves.
This procedure is for non-partitioned FC-SCSI libraries. For partitioned FC-SCSI libraries, see Entering/Ejecting Cartridges for FC‐SCSI Partition with Shared CAP .
1. Verify that all library CAPs are unreserved, empty, closed, and locked.
2. If you are changing the CAPs to diagnostics mode, quiesce the library to all hosts (see the tape management software documentation).
3. In the Mode list, select a mode:
Diagnostics — causes all CAPs to be available for diagnostic operations. Select this if you want to perform manual cartridge moves, such as moving cleaning or diagnostic cartridges from the CAPs to system cells.
Host Operations — causes all CAPs to be available for normal host operations. Select this if you want to return the library to normal tape mount/dismount operations.
Click Apply, and then OK.
Have customer verify this. If it still fails, have customer provide a fresh log snapshot with screen shots from current CAP status as well as a CAP DETAILS report from SLC Tools-->Reports-->Status Detail-->Cap Details
In addition to import/export cartridges follow these instructions which can be found in SLConsole under Help function.
Import/Export Tab (CAP)
Use the Tools > Diagnostics > CAP Folder >
CAP > Import/Export tab to enter/eject diagnostic or cleaning cartridges through a specified CAP. You can only import and export cleaning cartridges with this method if the library is in Auto Clean Mode (see Library Auto Clean). If drive cleaning is host managed, use the host software to import/export a cleaning cartridge.
The library controller reserves the CAP for the entire operation. The system can perform only one diagnostic or cleaning cartridge import or export operation at a time.
Caution:
Possible equipment damage:
DO NOT force the CAP to open or close.
Importing Cleaning/Diagnostic Cartridges
Ensure that the library has enough empty reserved system cells for the cleaning/diagnostic cartridges. There must be at least one empty system cell on each side of the library for robot recovery or library initialization. The library distributes the cartridges as evenly as possible in reserved system cells, and sets their usage counts to 0.
Verify that the CAP is empty, unreserved, closed, and locked.
In the Operation section, select Import Cleaning/Diagnostic cartridges.
Click Start, and then OK to begin the import operation.
Follow steps 2 to 4 of Entering Cartridges to complete the import operation.
Exporting Cleaning/Diagnostic Cartridges
Verify that the CAP is empty, available for use (not reserved by a host), and closed and locked.
In the Operation list, select a type of export operation.
Then, if applicable select the cartridges to export in the "Select Cartridge(s) to export" list.
Click Start, and then OK to begin the export operation.
Follow steps 2 to 5 of Ejecting Cartridges to complete the export operation.
