Applies to:

Oracle Communications Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) - Version DSR 5.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Event 32513 "Device Interface Warning" is raised at the DSR GUI.  At the shell prompt, syscheck will produce "ipbond: FAILURE:: MINOR::5000000000002000 -- Device Interface Warning" in class net.

Executing "cat /proc/net/bonding/bondX" where X is 0, 1, or 2 as appropriate will show only one ethernet interface (ethXY) available.

Changes

A network event may have preceded this condition.

Cause

The interface is down, either locally or on the far end (switch). The origin can be manual or due to a network event.

If manual, the availability needs to be restored manually to recover. If due to a network event, it should normally recover automatically however there are some cases where recovery may fail after the network event has cleared.

Solution

To resolve, data should be captured to identify the origin of the condition as much as possible. Examples of data include:

  • From bl460c server:
    • 'ifconfig' output
    • output of '/cat/proc/net/bonding/bondX' as described above
    • 'ethtool ethXY' output
    • 'syscheck' output and logs
    • the system logs (/var/log/messages file)
  • From the switch & OA:
    • output from 'show tech' or 'show tech all' on the switch
    • 'show all' data capture from the active OA.

Resolution path, depending in part on data analysis:

  1. Toggle local interface:
    # ifdown ethXY
    # ifup ethXY
  2. Toggle remote interface:
Log into switch, enter configuration mode, disable the interface. Then re-enable interface to effectively toggle its state.
  3. Re-seat the bl460c server
  4. Re-seat/restart the enclosure switch.

Be advised that these measures may impact traffic. Appropriate planning should be conducted prior to performing any maintenance activity. If these measures do not resolve the condition, additional analysis may need to be conducted to determine if hardware needs to be replaced.
