Symptoms

The SPARC T4-4 system ambient (/SYS/AMB) temperature reading is incorrect

A SPARC T4-4 ambient temperature returns incorrect temperature value, in the example below the SPARC T4-4 returned a temperature of 12C ( Centigrade )

root# ipmitool -H t4-4-sp.xxx.com -U root sdr | grep AMB

Password:

/SYS/T_AMB | 12 degrees C | ok

root#

While a SPARC T4-1 on the same rack reports a system ambient temperature reading of 27C ( Centigrade )

root# ipmitool -H t4-1-sp.xxx.com -U root sdr |grep AMB

Password:

T_AMB | 27 degrees C | ok

Cause

Oracle Engineering has extensively investigated this behavior and understands the cause of this issue, this issue is specific to SPARC T4-4, a fix will requires a HW correction.

Solution

The SPARC T4-4 has already been EOLed ( End Of Life ), this issue will not be fixed.
