Symptoms

Single (NON-Redundant) Controller Brocade FC Switch will not boot.

Cause

The defective switch that will most likely need to be replaced.

Solution

1) Verify from your company records the FC Switch was:
- purchased from Sun/Oracle
- is still under a valid Sun/Oracle support contract

2) Get make and model, serial number and WWN from the chassis and/or pull out tab of the defective FC switch.

The switch serial number and corresponding bar code are provided on the serial number label.
The serial number label is located as follows:

•Brocade 200E
—On the non-port side of the chassis

•Brocade 300, 4100, 4900, 5100, 5300, 7500, and Brocade Encryption Switch
—On the switch ID pull-out tab located inside the chassis on the port side on the left

•Brocade 5000
—On the switch ID pull-out tab located on the bottom of the port side of the switch

•Brocade 7600
—On the bottom of the chassis

•Brocade 48000
—Inside the chassis next to the power supply bays

•Brocade DCX
—On the bottom right on the port side of the chassis

World Wide Name (WWN) : Use the "wwn"  command to display the switch WWN.

If you cannot use the "wwn" command because the switch is inoperable, you can get the WWN
from the same place as the serial number, except for the Brocade DCX.

For the Brocade DCX, access the numbers on the WWN cards by removing the Brocade logo plate at the top of the non-port side of the chassis

3) Once the make and model, serial number and WWN is determined, open a new Service Request (SR) with Oracle support for the FC Switch issue and provide a  clear problem description.

Oracle support should verify the switch has current maintenance contract first, see:
<Document ID 1947447.1> Verifying Entitlement on Brocade Fibre Channel (FC) Switch Service Request (SR)

4) The following steps will need to be performed during switch replacement:

1 - The new replacement switch installed, powered on and logged onto to verify it is operational:

2 - The defective switch and replacement switch serial numbers/WWN will need to be provided to Oracle support so any licenses will be transferred to the  replacement switch.
See internal doc : <Document ID 1005030.1> How to Perform a Brocade Switch License Transfer

3 - The FC Switch configuration will need to be restored onto the  replacement switch.
<Document ID 1917431.1> Brocade Fibre Channel (FC) Switch Configuration Backup and Restore

4 - Ideally, once the replacement FC switch is fully operational a new Brocade FC switch support data should be collected and saved as baseline reference for any future issues.
