Applies to:

Oracle Communications EAGLE (Software) - Version EAGLE 3x.x and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

MASP card was rebooting while attempting an external DB backup.

Cause

This is due to an issue with the ESD strap when inserting the USB drive
Moreover the obits indicates the loss of redundancy :

------------------------------------------------------------------------
  STH: Received a BOOT APPL-Obituary reply for restart
  Card 1113 Module crc_mgr.c Line 1641 Class 01d3
  Register Dump :
  EFL=00000246 CS =0008 EIP=0064d4d8 SS =0010
  ...
  Report Date:17-01-05 Time:11:11:50
  ------------------------------------------------------------------------

  ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  STH: Received a BOOT APPL-Obituary reply for restart
  Card 1115 Module crc_mgr.c Line 1641 Class 01d3
  Register Dump :
  EFL=00000246 CS =0008 EIP=0064d4d8 SS =0010
  ...
  Report Date:17-01-05 Time:11:11:50

Solution

The MASP A did not become active when the MASP B was rebooting, it took a fraction of second.
According to the OBITS, we see that both MASPs rebooted at the same time, which explains the lack of active MASP for a short time :

------------------------------------------------------------------------
STH: Received a BOOT APPL-Obituary reply for restart
Card 1113 Module crc_mgr.c Line 1641 Class 01d3
Register Dump :
EFL=00000246 CS =0008 EIP=0064d4d8 SS =0010
...
Report Date:17-01-05 Time:11:11:50
------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------
STH: Received a BOOT APPL-Obituary reply for restart
Card 1115 Module crc_mgr.c Line 1641 Class 01d3
Register Dump :
EFL=00000246 CS =0008 EIP=0064d4d8 SS =0010
...
Report Date:17-01-05 Time:11:11:50

This OBIT is indicating an issue in the MASP redundancy, this is why the MASPs are rebooting.

=> Actually, this issue has already been observed either when a bad ESD Strap was found, or when the Engineer did not use a ESD Strap when inserting/removing the USB Drive.

User must wear a good ESD strap when inserting/removing the USB Drive
