Applies to:

Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A]
IBM z/OS on System z

Symptoms

Partitioned SL8500 is unable to ENTER cart via CAP from 2nd partition.

Changes

 Code update from FRS_4.73 to FRS_8.51

Cause

Partition1 Rail1/2 = Open System (ACSLS)

Partition2 Rail3/4 = Mainframe (HSC)

LSM0 and LSM1 are online to Open System hosts and are offline to Mainframe hosts.   When cart is entered from partition2 mainframe hosts, library responds 'LSM not ready' and enter operation would fail.

Status for LSM1 is ...

OFFLINE - READY - MANUAL - UNALLOCATED

Solution

Vary online LSM1 to all hosts.

LSM1 needs to be online for CAP access.   KB Doc "How to Modify/Vary a CAP Offline/Online In HSC (Doc ID 1546756.1)" indicates ;

Note: SL8500 partitioned
WARNING: It's important that all SL8500 LSMs are online even if they are not defined/allocated to the partition. If they are not online, CAPs may not be operational

Fixed problem after varying LSM1 online to partition2 mainframe hosts with LSM1 status as below.

ONLINE - READY - AUTOMATIC - UNALLOCATED
