Symptoms

10Gb PCI Express NIC (ixgbe) reports network connectivity lost for a port with no cable connected.

"10Gb PCI Express NIC reports Network connectivity via datalink <instance> has been lost."

alert.ak.xmlrpc.datalink.port.down

Changes

SFP+ transceiver used in ixgbe card.

Cause

There is no impact to functionality caused by this issue.  The card and transceiver function properly when in use (link is up).

False "link up" events are seen when there is no link, causing an alert to be generated when the correct state of "link down" is again asserted.

Bug 18337892 - bogus alerts about ports which are not cabled up

Solution

 Workarounds:

a. Remove the transceiver.

b. Configure the port, link up.

c. Replace the transceiver.
