Symptoms

Remote access and  ping  to Cisco 4948E switch is not working.  Local subnet access and ping  to the Cisco 4948 switch is working.

Cause

The wrong default gateway IP is configured on the Cisco as seen in the cisco#show running-config

Solution

Connect to the Cisco 4948 switch from a local system such as a DBnode in the same rack and modify the default gateway setting.

Example:

db01#ssh admin@10.140.140.8

Switch>enable
Password:
Switch#config t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Switch(config)#ip default-gateway 10.140.140.1
Switch(config)#end

Now check that it works as expected before saving the running configuration.

Switch#ping 10.140.140.1 <-----------------Ping default router from IOS CLI

Connect from a system that is not on the 10.140.140.0 network

Switch#writ memory <----------Save the running configuration with new default router after confirming that this works as expected.
