Symptoms

Cloning a database using the Oracle Snap Management Utility (SMU) fails with the error below:

Creating backup failed
--- TASK FAILED ---
File +REDO/cresprddg/onlinelog/group_28.276.789845669 from application Oracle
Database CRESCRUB in local volume

Cause

1)  Source host runs with the Solaris SPARC which is having the big endian format

2)  Target host is x86 machine which holds little endian format.

3)  Moving the Database through clone between the host having different endian formats requires re-writing each data file into the target host.

So SMU does not support this at present.

Solution

There is no plan to support this feature in 1.4.
