Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 2188380.1 : SL500 - Incompatible Tapes Being Used with Tape Drives in the Library
In this Document
Applies to:Sun StorageTek SL500 Modular Library System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]Information in this document applies to any platform. SymptomsThis document assists with an SL500 issue with incompatible tapes being used. Fails the move with an "Incompatible Media" error. CauseThis can occur if there are multiple drive types in the library and multiple media types in the library and the backup application doesn't separate the media types that can be used with the drive types. This could also occur if there are multiple drive types and multiple media types and a manual move is done from SLC (Streamline Library Console) or the CLI port on the library. An example of this would be if the customer has HP LTO3 and IBM LTO5 drives in the same library and have LTO3, LTO4, and LTO5 tapes in the library and a mount is attempted with a LTO5 tape into one of the HP LTO3 drives. The library won't allow this and will fail the move with an "Incompatible Media" error. SolutionIf the customer didn't attempt these moves from either SLC or the CLI port then they should look at the configuration of their backup application to make sure it won't allow a tape to be mounted to a drive that doesn't support that type of media. This also could possibly be a bug in the backup application software. Attachments This solution has no attachment |
