Symptoms

One of the HP Ultrium LTO4-scsi drive in SL8500 might be broken as multiple tapes have been marked as bad media and not writable.

Cause

Drive is defective.
 

Solution

Check any stuck tape in the drive.
Check drive target faceplate.
Upgrade drive firmware.
Power cycle tape drive.
Run diagnostic test on tape drive.
Check load/unload operation.
Try to write the media, in case tape flagged unusable, order the tape drive and replace it.
