Sun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

A SL3000 tape library has dual PDU's (2N) configured powered from 2 separate data center power sources. During a planned exercise to take one of the power feeds offline, power was lost to the rails, causing both robots to fail.

Cause

When the 2nd PDU was installed the step to swap rail DCPS 2 to position 3 was not followed thus when PDU1 was powered off there was no DC power supply in the 3rd slot to provide power to the rails.

Solution

For a 2N power configuration for the SL3000 the DC power supply currently in the middle slot ( position 2 ) needs to be moved to the right position or follow directions for 2N+1 for even more redundancy

3000 Rail Power Supply location

Notice from this screen print from SLConsole power supply folder that there is no rail power supply for address 1,0,0,1,3. For 2N+1 you would see power supplies in all 3 positions.
