Symptoms

When using the Veritas NetBackup software with the Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance Plug-in for NetBackup OpenStorage v1.0 to back up data to a ZFS Storage Appliance, performance can be affected, especially if a very large number of image files (>1,000) already exist on a Storage Unit.

Cause

A bug in the plug-in was causing the plug-in to iterate over all the image files on each Storage Unit.

When the number of image files increased to a very large amount (>1,000), performance degradation was noticeable.

In addition, multiple redundant (and unnecessary) checks were in place in the plug-in to validate image files.  The unnecessary checks were removed to improve performance.

Solution

Please download the attached version of the plug-in labeled v1.0.3 for the appropriate platform.

For Solaris, AIX:  Extract the zip file and run the 'installOST.sh' script on each Media Server to install the updated plug-in.  It may be necessary to change the permissions of the script to allow execution.

For Windows:  Run 'install.exe' as as administrator (right click the file, select 'Run as administrator')

NOTE: This updated version is only currently supported on Solaris SPARC, AIX, and Microsoft Windows x86-64 Media Servers. For other platforms, please contact Oracle Support.
