PEOV = Physical End of Volume

Symptoms

T10000D tape drives took the FSC 5205 with a specific media during writing operations.

The media results full.

FSC: 5205 SRV_FSC_PEOV_CRASHED
MIM Code: NONE

FRU: MICROCODE CONF: 99%
FRU: HARDWARE CONF: 1%

Summary: |PEOT ENCOUNTERED|WHILE RD/WRT |FORWARD |

Field Text:
PEOV encountered while reading/writing. Tape motion was halted

Cause

The MAX CAPACITY feature was set ON on the T10000KD tape drives.

To check the current MAX CAPACITY setting of the tape drive using VOP:

- Select "Configure" Menu.
- Select the "Fibre" Tab. At the bottom you will see an option for Max Capacity.

Example:

......

F50 i03 Channel interface type: Fibre [ Fibre, Ficon, FCoE ]
F51 i02 Small File Accelerator: Enabled [ Enabled, Disabled ]
F52 i02 Large File Accelerator: Enabled [ Enabled, Disabled ]
F53 i02 LFA Threshold: 2% [ 2%, 10% ]
F54 i02 Adv Buffer Management: Enabled [ Enabled, Disabled ]
F56 i04 Tape App Accelerator: Disabled [ Disabled, Enabled-All, Enabled-WTM0=NOP.HonorWTM>0, Enabled-HonorWTM0.BufferWTM>0 ]
F57 i02 Max Capacity: Enabled [ Disabled, Enabled ]  <------------------------

......

When MAX CAPACITY is ON  we do not stop writing when the drive runs out of physical space on the tape.

When MAX CAPACITY is ON a full tape of data cannot be assured to fit if it is copied to another tape.

Solution

Data has been moved on to another cartridge.
