Applies to:

Exadata Database Machine V2 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Exadata Database Machine X2-2 Full Rack - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The KVM web-based administration page (aka BUI) shows an alert similar to the following:

     Multiple Alerts - Fan 1, Fan 3

A failure has been detected in one of the built-in cooling fans.  Please examine the unit to make sure there are no obstructions in the fan vents.

Cause

Something is obstructing one or more fan vents on the KVM.

Something is preventing one or more fans from spinning.

One or more fans are faulty.

Solution

1.  As noted in the alert message, check the fans on the KVM to ensure nothing is blocking the vents or keeping the fans from turning (paper, wires, etc).

If the there is something obstructing the fan vent or the fan itself, carefully remove it then check to see if the alert has cleared.

If nothing is obstructing the fan vent or the fan itself OR removing the obstruction did not clear the alert, go to step 2.

2.  Collect a screen shot of the alert message from the KVM BUI.

NOTE: There is no maintenance or diagnostic tool available for collecting data on this issue (e.g. - ILOM Snapshot, etc).

3.  Open a Service Request with Oracle Support and attach the screen shot.   Oracle Support will schedule a field service task to have the issue resolved by an on-site visit from a field service engineer.
