Symptoms

While configuring InfiniBand on an Exalytics T5-8 Solaris Version 11 server, receive the following error while running, "ipadm create-ip ibp0" command.

Error:

ipadm: cannot create interface ibp0: Insufficient memory

Cause

This problem is described in the following internal, unpublished Solaris version 11 Bugs:

Bug 18134702 - ipadm fails with error "insufficient memory
Bug 20214097 - error: net0: failed to create VNIC: insufficient memory seen on T7-KZ

These bugs are fixed in the Solaris 11.3 release.

Solution

1. In order to set-up InfiniBand on a Solaris T5-8 Exalytics Server, an upgrade to Solaris 11.3 is required. Solaris Version 11.3 has been confirmed by Exalytics Product Management as being Certified.

Solaris Version 11.3 can be downloaded from edelivery.oracle.com.
