The new ODA X6-2s (small and X6-2m (medium) shipped originally with 12.1.2.7.0. However, with 12.1.2.8.0 available, it is faster and cleaner to install X6-2sm rather than upgrade. This note confirms downloads ISO and GI for X6-2s / X6-2m for 12.1.2.8 is the preferred method. Additionally, the newer CPU patched  12.1.0.2.160719 and 11.2.0.4.160719 RDBMS Clones can be immediately used.

Symptoms

The following error reports while trying to apply the 12.1.2.8 GI is failing on a new X6-2s or X6-2m

# /opt/oracle/dcs/bin/odacli update-repository -f /tmp/rdbms/oda-sm-12.1.2.8.0-160817-GI-12.1.0.2.zip
-bash: /opt/oracle/dcs/bin/odacli: No such file or directory

 Factors:

  • ODA X6-2s or ODA 6-2m
  • Using default ODA version of 12.1.2.7
  • Attempting to upgrade to 12.1.2.8

Probable indicators

  • New from the ODA X6-2s or X6-2m factory installation 
  • No patching attempted since receiving the ODA X6-2s or X6-2m
  • Have not applied the Patch 24391174 ORACLE DATABASE APPLIANCE X6-2 S AND X6-2 M 12.1.2.8 DCSIMAGE DOWNLOAD

UNABLE to START X6-2 GUI to complete the Web Deployment

Using FireFox would expose the error message regarding SSL being associated with the failure leading to the finding that this is a known issue

Changes

 Brand new box and applying the August 2016 12.1.2.8 GI bundle.

Cause

New ODA X6-2s /X6-2m servers do not include a complete installation from the factory.

The 12.1.2.7 installation will require completing the steps for the GI and other patches*.

* If upgrading from 12.1.2.7 to 12.1.2.8 you will also need Patch 24391174 ORACLE DATABASE APPLIANCE X6-2 S AND X6-2 M 12.1.2.8 DCSIMAGE DOWNLOAD
