Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 2177634.1 : When Attempting to Change the Number of Cores, Errors With: DBM-10004 - Decreasing the Number of Active Cores is not Supported
Workaround for the DBM-10004 error when decreasing the core count on an Exadata system. Created from <SR 3-13253692041> Applies to:Exadata X3-2 Hardware - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]Exadata X4-2 Hardware - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Exadata X5-2 Hardware - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Exadata X6-2 Hardware - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Exadata Database Machine V2 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Information in this document applies to any platform. SymptomsError DBM-10004 is seen when attempting to decrease the CPU core count on an Exadata Database Machine. May also occur when attempting to increase the core count. CauseSystem was initially configured via OEDA with wrong core count. After configuration in this manner, changing the core count may fail.
Solution1. Start DBMCLI.
DBMCLI> ALTER DBSERVER pendingCoreCount = 14 force
DBMCLI> LIST DBSERVER attributes pendingCoreCount
DBMCLI> LIST DBSERVER attributes coreCount
NOTE: It is not possible to set the core count below the minimum number required for the system. Using the force option to try to force a core count below that number will not work. See the Oracle Exadata Database Machine Maintenance Guide for a list of the minimum and maximum cores required for the various Exadata systems. Also, refer to the Exadata Database Machine Licensing Information guide for details on core counts and licensing requirements.
