Symptoms

Customer unable to enter tapes into library. SL Console was reporting 7 free cells, however HSC was reporting 0 free cells, therefore not allowing any tapes to be entered. This was occurring on two SL3000 tape libraries.

Changes

Cause

HSC logs showed that a couple of panels were frozen in HSC that had the free cells, therefore customer was unable to enter tapes.

From library 00:00 acs(00)

PANEL 12 FROZEN - 20 TOTAL CELLS, 0 FREE CELLS

PANEL 13 FROZEN - 205 TOTAL CELLS, 5 FREE CELLS

From library 01:00 acs(01)

PANEL 12 FROZEN - 20 TOTAL CELLS, 0 FREE CELLS

PANEL 13 FROZEN - 205 TOTAL CELLS, 7 FREE CELLS

Solution

Entered the following HSC commands to clear the frozen panels from both libraries -

set freeze(off) forlsmid(00:00)
set freeze(off) forlsmid(01:00)
