Symptoms

When collecting an SP snapshot from the Browser User interface the snapshot tool fails to collect trouble shooting data (would also fail when using CLI mode in this case).

  • Here an example what happens if the SP's root user has the ALOM shell assigned and you try to collect a snapshot of the SP.
  • --> The SP snapshot failed to collect the output of ILOM commands because the ALOM shell does not understand the ILOM commands.
  • --> Instead of the expected output, you see the following errors in the output file:

./ilom/@usr@local@bin@spshexec_show_faulty.out
Waiting for daemons to initialize...

Daemons ready

sc> show faulty                                               <---- Note the prompt
Invalid command 'show' - type help for a list of commands.
sc>
Session closed

The "sc>" prompt tells us that the root user got the ALOM shell assigned and we can see the ILOM commands fail (ILOM prompt would be "->").

Another example:

./ilom/@usr@local@bin@spshexec_show_-d_properties_-level_all_@.out
Waiting for daemons to initialize...

Daemons ready

sc> show -d properties -level all /                           <---- Note the prompt
Invalid command 'show' - type help for a list of commands.

Session closed

Changes

The root user's ILOM shell was changed from the default shell (ILOM) to the ALOM shell.

Cause

  • The Service Processor (SP) has one user account configured by default: It is the "root" user which has the ILOM shell assigned.
  • The root user's ILOM shell should not be changed to the ALOM shell because this will i.e. cause the SP's snapshot tool to fail collecting trouble shooting data, when you are asked by Oracle Support Services to gather an SP snapshot output.
  • Furthermore, the ALOM compatibility shell is no longer available with newer systems from T3-x onwards and it can cause confusion when the root user of one system has the ALOM and another system has the ILOM shell assigned.

Solution

Please change the root user's shell back to the ILOM shell:

sc> userclimode root default

If you want to use the ALOM shell, you can add a new user i.e. "admin" and assign it the ALOM shell:

sc> usershow
Username  Permissions  Password  CLI mode
root      aucro        Assigned  default       <---- "default" means ILOM shell
admin     aucro        Assigned  alom
sc>

To add a new user with the ALOM shell assigned please see:
