Pillar Axiom Replication Engine (MaxRep) - Version 3.0 to 3.0 [Release 3.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When executing the MaxRep Command Line Interface (MRCLI) utility using a command such as the following:

mrcli -u admin -m <MaxRep Engine IP> getProtectionPlans -x stdout

You may see an exception error that states the following:

An exception was caught in the default exception handler: Command execution cannot be proceeded. Please refer Oracle Support for help.

Cause

The cause can be found in the mrcli_client.log file, by default the log file is located under the home folder on the host.

  • For a Windows host, at the command prompt type "echo %userprofile%" under this folder location look for mrcli_client.log file
  • For a Solaris or Linux host, at the command prompt type "echo $HOME" under this folder location look for mrcli_client.log file

Viewing the mrcli_client.log file you may see the following error message:

Solution

The host that is executing the MRCLI utility must be setup to resolve both forward and reverse DNS lookups for the MaxRep Engine. Otherwise it will fail with the error message.  Once DNS has been fixed on the host the command should execute successfully.
