Applies to:

Oracle Key Manager - Version 1.1.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

During OKM system reboot the system went right to the GRUB prompt.

Cause

There is a certain step by step procedure to upgrade the ELOM firmware. If it is not followed to the letter the firmware can hang at the GRUB.

Upgrading the ELOM firmware in the wrong order can cause the X2200 M2 KMA server to hang at the GRUB.

Solution

***** Action Plan *****

Downgrade to the previous version 3.13 using patch 10367023.

Once it's back to normal, then:

     1. Upgrade it to version 3.15 (SW 2.0), using patch 10367036

     2. Once the upgrade to 3.15 is successful, then upgrade to version 3.23 (SW 2.2) using patch 10375779

Note: After each downgrade/upgrade, boot the server to complete the BIOS upgrade (wait for the GRUB menu).

Once the customer went through all the steps to upgrade the ELOM firmware to version 3.2.3, It still would not boot up off of the GRUB.
The customer rebooted the KMA server to get into the BIOS to check the Boot UP priority sequence. The SATA disk drive was the first device showing .
We replaced the Disk drive then it booted up ok to pre-installed OKM version 2.3.
From there the customer was able to upgrade the OKM FW to 2.5.2
