Symptoms

Drive 1.2.2.1.3 down, inoperative

Unable to unload the tape cartridge

Tape drive status is offline / error

Cause

Tape cartridge could be stuck /jammed/ damaged inside the drive and unable to unload
Drive mechanism could be faulty

Solution

FE needs to remove the stuck tape from the drive manually

Check whether the tape cartridge leader pin is out of position, if so remove it and re-seat on the drive mechanism leader

Clean the drive by using good cleaning media

Load a known good tape cartridge and perform drive diagnostics test

If diagnostics test fails, replace the part.

 

In this case, FSE has found leader pin in tape cartridge, removed it and repaired it appropriately.
