Oracle Ethernet Switch ES2-72 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When upgrading SysFW of an ES2 switch, the following error is displayed:

-> load -source ftp://username:password@x.x.x.x/ES2-72_64_SEFOS_2.0.0.7.pkg

Error: Maximum file size exceeded
Unable to retrieve the specified image

Firmware image update failed.
load: Command Failed

Cause

On Ethernet ES2 switches, there are two ILOM shells that differ by their prompts:

-> prompt is reserved for SP

ES2-> prompt is reserved for HOST

In the patch .zip archive, there are two firmware images.

ES2-72_64_SEFOS_2.0.0.7.pkg ~120Mb

ES2-72_64_SP_3.2.5.60_r109079.pkg ~13Mb

When trying to load wrong firmware image, an  error message is displayed.

In doc E60180.pdf page 16, step 5, the load-source command is proceeded with -> prompt instead of ES2->prompt which may lead to issue described in this doc.

Solution

The HOST (SEFOS) must be upgraded  before upgrading the Service Processor (SP).

To upgrade sefos:

1. -> start /HOST/console
2. ES2-> load -source ftp://username:password@x.x.x.x/ES2-72_64_SEFOS_2.0.0.7.pkg
3. ES2-> reset /SP

Upgrade the SP at the -> prompt.

1 -> load -source ftp://username:password@x.x.x.x/ES2-72_64_SP_3.2.5.60_r109079.pkg
2. -> /sbin/reboot

Upgrade procedure is described in document Oracle Switch ES2-72 and Oracle Switch ES2-64 Product Notes available here:
