Applies to:

Oracle Communications Performance Intelligence Center (PIC) Software - Version 9.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

NSP backup script logic for purge mechanism makes that it needs enough space to do the backup (at least 5 Gbytes) in the dedicated directory (/usr/TKLC/oracle/backup).

This mechanism keeps only the 7 last backup files.

Changes

The customer stored hundreds of old backups in the backup directory, where nothing is supposed to be "manually" stored. Only the last 7 backup files are kept there.

Cause

The fact that there were a very high number of backup files in the dedicated directory was because of a customer bad usage and bad management.

No backup file should use the NSP server itself for final repository. Backup files are supposed to be stored on external servers to prevent major loss of the system backup.

Moreover, if the dedicated "Backup" directory is used to store other old backups, this will be a source of possible storage issue.

Solution

Clean up the backup directory (/usr/TKLC/oracle/backup) before upgrades or during operation, to keep its content is stable.

Inform the customer about the good practices to guarantee a reliable way of Backup storage.
